About Tierra Antigua de Pedro & Carina

Maria with a traditional weaving pattern.
A classic and very intricate Zapotec design.
One of the largest looms in Teotitlan, needs three weavers to operate.

What Makes Us Different

There are many weavers here in Teotitlan del Valle Oaxaca, and they are all excellent in their own right. Each has their unique style and secret processes, and we are no different....except...our family tradition has always been to produce tapestries and rugs that are one step above the other shops in town.

First, we use only hand selected wools of the finest grade from long known suppliers.

Second, our designs ,even though traditional to the Zapotec Culture, are blended with touches of contemporary flair, a process that takes much longer to create than simpler, less complicated lay outs.

Finally, our weaving process uses more threads per inch than others...you can see the difference in the fine details of our products...this obviously takes more thread per item and more time on the loom....that is why our tapestries and rugs take anywhere from six weeks to SIX MONTHS to complete, depending on the size.
